Potter, Megan Biggs/Regalia Political Studies 26 October 2014 Restoration For the People of the Slammers The â€Å"Slammer† is where our nation puts criminals; also more commonly known as jail or prison. We as the United States of America have the highest amount of people incarcerated in the world; the number that makes puts us at the top is 2.2 million people. The topic being argued is if more resources and money should be provided toward education for prevention and awareness or education and help for prisoners and ex-prisoners. Both stated arguments are in favor of lowering crime and reducing the numbers of prisoners in jail; but the conflict is should we as a nation be focusing more on prevention or rehabilitation. More resources and money that are put into rehabilitation, correction and reentry programs will conclude in community involvement, giving a second chance to prisoners, necessary and specific help to them and creating a healthy involvement for the children of the prisoners. The more we put into rehabilitation the more change we will see within the country and within our nation’s society. Imprisonment wasn’t always commonly used, but rather Corporal punishment, forced labor and social rejection (ADPRS). Imprisonment started in Europe and used as a punishment by taking away one s freedom and putting them in confinement (ADPRS). The prison system didn’t take place in America until the late 1700s to 1800s; at that time, people thought the crimes were beyond
